Introducing: The Belligerents

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on November 24, 2011 by silenceisboring

The Belligerents are a five piece indie-dance band from Brisbane, Australia. Earlier this year they released their debut EP ”Less Arty More Party” which has resulted in them touring around Australia with the likes of Strange Talk, Flight Facilities and The Holidays. Decent, eh?

I recently became aware of The Belligerents by their brilliant catchy new single ”Steal Money”, produced by buzz band Mitzi. The single is a wonderful indie-pop anthem that is certainly due to be played over and over by Australia’s pop radio station Triple J. THIS IS NOT A BAD THING.

Dig it.

Enjoy.

Introducing: Citizens!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on November 23, 2011 by silenceisboring

London five piece synth pop band Citizens! (considerably better than the band without the exclamation mark) have been delivering up a storm of catchy pop tracks. The most recent ”True Romance” appearing on the latest Kitsune compilation and being remixed by nu-disco champion Gigamesh.

In between supporting The Rapture and their studio work with Franz Ferdinand‘s Alex Kapranos they’ve been sexing it up all over town with their mighty high-octane synths and pumped up basslines.

Contagious.

Introducing: Vostok-1

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on November 22, 2011 by silenceisboring

Vostok-1 was the first human spaceflight, carried by the Soviet Union in 1961, reaching the first human into outer space as well as the first orbital flight of a manned vehicle with the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. It is also the name of the Spanish disco house band that focuses on 80′s sounds and samples whom just released an absolute BRILLIANT album called ”Funkynaut Club”.

Download: Party People – Vostok-1 (Right Click, Save As)

”I love the party people, they make me feel like dancing”

This took me totally by surprise. Imagine, an album that is full to the brim of quality French / disco house reminiscent to the ”Music Sounds Better With You” days. Think Room 5, think early Bob Sinclar, think Vostok-1.

Download: Your Favourite Club - Vostok-1 (Right Click, Save As)

”You know I love ya, You know I push no one above ya”

I dare you not to smile when listening to this epic epic (delete repeated word? No) release. It’s seriously impossible to hate with energetic, eclectic intergalactic pure funk practically humping your ears for eighty eight minutes.

Download: Robot Pleasures - Vostok-1 (Right Click, Save As)

”Everybody, getting down”

I can’t tell you much about Vostok-1 apart from this. Download their other free material. They released other galactic  bombs earlier this year. ”Fifty Years In Space” and ”Outer Space Disco” are both worthy of time.

Download: Golden Record - Vostok-1 (Right Click, Save As)

”I want your love, I want your sweet sweet love”

In the meantime, judge away at these five tracks taken from their latest free album ”Funkynaut Club”. I guarantee though, you’ll be visiting all three links and pressing the download album button.

I’ll leave you with this.

By the way, Vostok-1 only has 250 likes. FIX THIS.

Introducing: Catcall

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on November 22, 2011 by silenceisboring

Australian artist Catherine Kelleher, better known to you and me as Catcall, has recently been making waves throughout the blogosphere with her 80s inspired electro pop. Just like fellow 2011 electro pop female stars Florrie and Queen of Hearts, she has enlisted today finest for production duties.

Her two tracks ”Satellites”(produced by Diamond Cut) and ”Swimming Pool” have been floating around the web as of late and I just couldn’t  resist. My favourite ”Satellites”, a homage to 80s pop, is reminiscent to fellow Australian artists Ladyhawke and Empire of The Sun, however Catcall brings her own unique style proving to be more worthy of today’s generic 15-minutes-of-fame artists.

The Latest Psychemagik

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on November 21, 2011 by silenceisboring

We covered English duo Psychemagik before, but I had a chance to download a few of their latest remixes and I couldn’t help but post them.

First up is their epic  fourteen minute balearic-disco-house re-touch to this already amazing tune. The original is a 1987 track by Quintus Project that has been re-released by Derwin Records.

Download: Night Flight (Psychemagik Remix) - Quintus Project (Right Click, Save As)

Next up is their remix of Crystal Castles latest single ”Champion Sound”. In true Psychemagik style, the fellas cast their magic transforming this into yet another stellar tune. From it’s interesting beginnings this transforms, growing on itself until the peak takes you completely in. Epic in every meaning of the word, this glimmering remix is probably the best of the ”Champion Sound” remixes and will have you coming back for more.

Download: Champion Sound (Psychemagik Remix) – Crystal Fighters (Right Click, Save As)

Last but not least is their remix of Metronomy‘s ”Everything Goes My Way”. Filled with pianos, synthesizers and happiness it’s pretty hard to fault – it’s perfect for the car, the club or the tube. Tuneage.

Strange Talk & Mecanico – Both Back With New Track

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on November 10, 2011 by silenceisboring

In the last week I have received an email from each of the above mentioned bands, both of which I have loved and posted a while ago, promoting their new single. What a lovely week.

You see, both these bands blew me away – they had my hand on the repeat button before the song had even finished – I just couldn’t get enough. Both feature chorus heavy, sing a long, and simply happy tracks that are just dying for radio play.

I was first introduced to Melbourne band Strange Talk this time last year. I was researching one of my super brand new posts (Gypsy & the Cat), on myspace and had a quick look at their ”top friends” and stumbled on this amazing band (orginally called Thieves Of Aon). They sounded similar to the band I was researching, but with added Phoenix and a hint of Yeasayer. Suffice to say, the repeating began and a post eventuated.

Now they are back with yet another addictive chorus and yet another head bopping tune, ”Sexual Lifestyle”. This time with a little help from Australian 2006-2008-era-royalty Van She (Tech).

I discovered Mecanico earlier this year and my immediate reaction was one of awe, surprise, excitement and happiness. Pretty good eh?

Delivering funky pop with irresistible choruses that demanded audience participation, it wasn’t long before I fell in love. ”Colossus”, ”Fanatic” and ‘Barcelona” are a near unstoppable force of smiles and feet stomping and I’m dumbfounded to the reason why these guys haven’t exploded everywhere. Needless to say, their new track ”Street Royal” lives up to expectations.

It delivers more of what I love; the lead singer’s passionate vocal work, dramatic guitars, cheesy (yet wonderful) synthesizes and overall it’s is a pleasure to listen to.

Something Special

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on October 27, 2011 by silenceisboring

About 2 or 3 weeks ago I was introduced to this tune and I have pretty much wanted to keep it secret to the world because I love it so much. Suffice to say, a lot of the world already know it so me posting it won’t be ‘revealing’ it as such.

Introducing: Miguel Campbell‘s simple, sexy and effective ”Something Special”.

It oozes sex and can, without a doubt, be put in the category of ”proper tune”.

This is probably my favourite jam of 2011. Deep vocal house is back in baby.
